The Bitterroot flower has a long history. It was first used by the Native Americans for trading and also as a food. Actually the name of the flower came from its bitter taste. However when cooked, the taste was no more bitter. But the flower is also hugely renowned for its beauty, and so it has become the state flower of the state of Montana.

The Ravalli County Museum is 2 blocks south of Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets on Bedford Street.
