Lost Trail Pass
Located near the Continental Divide at over 7,000 feet, Lost Trail Pass cuts through the steep, rocky peaks of the Bitterroot Mountains on the Montana-Idaho border, just 94 miles south of Missoula along US-93.

Overview
Lost Trail Pass lies at the south end of the Bitterroot Valley at 7,014 feet, along US Hwy 93, on the border between Montana and Idaho.
Driving Directions
From Missoula, travel 10 miles on US-12 W and then continue to follow US-93 S through the Bitterroot Valley for roughly 84 miles. From Salmon, Idaho, head north on US-93.
Time/Distance
From Missoula, the drive up and over Lost Trail Pass takes about 1.5 – 2 hours. Continued travel to Salmon, ID adds another 30 minutes to the journey.
Highlights
- Take in views of the Bitterroot Valley before ascending toward the pass amidst sheer, rocky cliffs and forested hills that fall away to the Salmon River below.
- During summer, stop in at the visitor center located on top of the pass.
- During winter months, ski the slopes from the top of the Continental Divide at Lost Trail Powder Mountain Ski Area.
