Overview

Started in 1984, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation works toward protecting elk, their habitat, and other wildlife. This broad scope means that millions of acres of land have been enhanced and protected since the foundation began its work. At the heart of it all is the Elk Country Visitor Center.

The Elk Country Visitor Center is more than just a museum, it is an experience. Through interactive displays the center strives to educate the visitor about elk, elk habitat, and the importance of land conservation for elk and other wildlife. Learn to identify elk tracks and its distinct bugle or try to lift elk antlers. They are surprisingly heavy. Enjoy a wildlife conservation film or take a moment to appreciate the extensive display of mounted elks. When the weather is nice, step outside for a stroll on the nature trail that winds its way through the 22 acres of protected elk habitat. Keep your eyes open for white-tailed deer, elk, and bald eagles.

The creative education the Elk Country Visitor Center provides is crucial for the future of elk and the conservation of land for elk and other wildlife. The foundation couldn't have succeeded in protecting so much habitat without a knowledgeable support group. So, stop in and enjoy all that the center has to offer. Don't forget to stop in the gift shop for a souvenir.
