Overview

The Darby Historical Visitor Center is a neat place. Steeped in a rich history, this isn't just another housing spot for local information. Built between 1937 and 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corp, the building originally housed the first official ranger station in Darby. From 1965 to 1990, the Bitterroot Hot Shot Fire Crew, the best of the best in wildlife suppression, called the building home. And today, the building is home to the Darby Historical Visitor Center.

The visitor center is an information hub. As part of the National Forest Service Museum, you will find historical forest service memorabilia displayed throughout the building. See the evolution of the forest service since its inception. The visitor center also offers detailed forest service maps, topographical maps, and information on recreational opportunities. Location/Directions

The city of Darby is located in southwestern Montana, about an hour south of Missoula. From Missoula, just take Hwy 93 south to Darby. The Darby Visitor Center is on the main highway across from the grade school and adjacent to the Darby Ranger Station.
