Location

A gem of western Montana, Hamilton, is tucked between the Bitterroot and Sapphire Mountains and adjacent to the Bitterroot River. The easy drive south from Missoula only takes 45 minutes.

    Grab your hiking shoes and start exploring. Blodgett Canyon is a local favorite, perfect for day hikes or pack your backpack for an overnight adventure. Don't feel like hiking, explore the area on horseback.
  • Fishing
    Tease the trout as you test your luck fishing the Bitterroot River. Grab a local guide and nymph your way down the river. Fishing access signs can be found along the highway every five to ten miles. The river is also popular with canoers and kayakers.
  • Climbing
    Granite slabs await your ascent in Kootenai Canyon where you will find plenty of multi-pitch climbing routes and amazing views.
  • Winter
    In the winter, drive the short distance to Lost Trail Pass and enjoy a bit of powder. There you will find runs the whole family will enjoy. Or stay closer to town and explore the mountains via snowshoe or cross-country ski.

  • Skalkaho Pass Road
    Explore the Skalkaho Pass Road. This 50-mile scenic road winds up the valley and through the Sapphire Mountains, opening up to amazing vistas. Pack a lunch and make a day out of it. From Hamilton, take Hwy 38/Skalkaho Pass Road and enjoy the scenery.
  • Marcus Daly Mansion
    Visit the Marcus Daly mansion, once a summer retreat for the copper king. Now, this historic landmark offers you a glimpse into the past. Hamilton also offers museums and great antique shops. Spend the day stepping back in time.
  • Golf
    Enjoy a round of golf in the Bitterroot Valley. Hopefully, the beautiful scenery won't be too much of a distraction.
  • Festivals
    And what town would be complete without a number of summer festivals? You are sure to catch at least one of Hamilton's many events and festivals, which include the Ravalli County Fair, Bitterroot Smokin' Blues Promotion (the largest blues festival in Montana), Bitterroot Valley Bluegrass Festival, art in the park, Daly Days, and many more.

Getting Here

It's a straight shot from Missoula to Hamilton. Just take Hwy 93 south from Missoula until you reach Hamilton. Turn right on W Main St and you have made it to the city center.
